Watchdog warns Borders over misleading vouchers
The Trade Commission has issued a caution to Borders that a pre-Christmas voucher advance risked breaching the Tow-haired Trading Act.
In November and December 2009 Borders advertised a helping with the headline present “Profit $20 in vouchers for every $75 you disburse at Borders until Christmas.”
The recommendation was widely advertised in-shop and online through an e-newsletter and on Borders’ website.
However, the paltry print of the extend specified that customers could only repossess one $10 voucher in January and a alternate $10 voucher February, which, in the commission’s take in, materially changed the headline offer - constituting a rupture of the Fair Trading Act.
“The commission received complaints from consumers saying that they felt misled as they had done up the required amount believing that they could get a $20 knock off for one purchase,” said Mr Allan.
“We are pleased as Punch that Borders will honour the vouchers for a $20 detract from for one purchase and that they will be prolonged to honour the vouchers beyond the reported expiry day of the end of February.”
The Commission will not be irresistible any further action against Borders at this fake but will continue to CRT Borders’ promotions.
A split of the Fair Trading Act can denouement in a fine of up to $200,000.
Borders has stores in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch and is a segmenting of REDgroup Retail which is a rules, stationery and entertainment retailer operating in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

Pershing Four-sided has agreed to a one year extension of the loan agreement.
From the thrust release:
ANN ARBOR, Mich., March 30 -- Borders Bundle, Inc.and Pershing Square Capital Management, L.P. today announced a one-year appendix of the $42.5 million senior secured term accommodation from April 15, 2009 until April 1, 2010. The loan will be extended on its prevailing terms, including an interest rate of 9.8%, which is substantially below vend for comparable financing. At the same time, Borders Group is resetting the reach price on Pershing Square's 14.7 million warrants to $0.65 per percentage, and the company will allow its option to "put" its U.K. based Paperchase gifts and stationery corporation to Pershing Square to expire.
