Best I've Used!
I was a little hesitant with the price, but decided to give it a try. I have been nothing but happy with the overall performance and the price fits! This is truely the best sharpener I have used!

Worked for few days :(
Based on the reviews, I bought the sharpner. I wanted to buy Panasonic but they are not available anymore, it seems. I was refunded in full by Amazon. But, it is always a pain to re-package the item, go to the post office etc., The pencil kept on circling inside the sharpner without getting sharpened.

Sturdy motor powered pencil sharpener
I do not like to keep buying same kind of products for one purpose such as pencil sharpener. So far, I have bought 5 different brands of pencil sharpeners. Most other electric pencil sharpeners have weak and fragile motor. I bought this product 5 months ago. I am so happy with this purchase because this sharpener has heavy-duty powered motor. In addition, this has auto sensor to stop the motor when the small debris receptacle bin is full.
I can give 4 stars because the debris receptacle bin is too small and I have only 5 month experience with this product.

X-Acto 1744 Heavy Duty electric pencil sharpener.
Powerfull! Effortlessly sharpens a new pencil to a fine point in just 5 seconds. Does not "eat" or waste the pencil. The only minor complaint is that the shavings tray is not as big as you would think for a sharpener of this size, but still its the best electric pencil sharpener I've ever owned.

Sharpens to a perfect point
I use pencils all day long and sharpening is important to me.
I Love this sharpener and will be ordering more.
It sharpens the pencil to a perfect point.
The unit is very powerful.
Like another user stated, It does have suction cup feet. I actually like these, but I could see why someone else may not.
I tried other sharpeners. This wins hands down and the price is right.

Just bad.
I don't expect much from a pencil sharpener- I expect it to sharpen. This one is doing a terrible job of that straight out of the box. I can't speak to long-term reliability, but my first impression is that this thing is a giant waste of money.

The worst kind of Amazon product
This is the worst kind of Amazon product. Why? Because it works when you first get it, but then performance degrades and within 2 months, its a useless, non-functional product. But now it's too late to return it, the packing boxes were long discarded, so I am stuck with the loss. The only satisfaction left to me is to possibly head off other shoppers from buying a flawed product. This was supposed to be a "heavy duty" sharpener, but I was never impressed. You had to hold a pencil "just right" to get a even cut around the lead, and it never seemed to fully sharpen without a few minutes of jiggling and twisting the pencil. And sure enough, after only 2 months of use by our family, it no longer functions: I can't get it to sharpen to a point, and I get a ragged cut around the lead. I have taken to using a knife again. Primitive, but effective. Heavy duty? Well, maybe as a paper weight.

BUYER BEWARE
This sharpener stopped working not long after purchase. I called Bostitch to request a replacement and found their return policy expenditure laden, with an exorbitant turn around time which deepens customer inconvenience for faulty products. The price to ship item back along with a two month turn around is not worth the effort. Largely disappointing was Bostitch's lack of customer friendly product support. Clearly they will only stand behind a defected product only after swimming through a sea of red tape. NO MORE BOSTITCH products for our company! BUYER BEWARE!!!!

not as good as i thought
This sharpender is not really that good. My pencils don't get a nice sharp at all. I already messed a few pencils trying to work this thing.

Tears and curses.
I was so excited to purchase this sharpener for my classroom. Even more excited, I unwrapped it, plugged it in, invited the first student up, and... screech; it stopped dead. Sure, one could coax a sharpening out of the groaning machine, but that's not really what one anticipates. Maybe it's just this one faulty machine, but there it is.

Terrible!
I received this product this morning from Restockit. The box had obviously been opened before and had a sticker marked "returns," indicating that it had previously been opened and returned. When I tried it out, it would half heartedly chug and then the little blue light would indicate that it was done, but pulling out the pencil revealed no sharpening had taken place. I tried several different angles but this product clearly didn't work.
I assume this was merely defective and that a non-defective product would work well. But I am both mystified and angry that Restockit would send me a clearly defective item that had been returned to them. Now I have to waste my time returning this and getting refunded.
Another complaint: this sharpener was about 3 times larger than I expected.

I love it!
I have suffered for years with the drudgery of using the cheaper x-acto model that Staples sells. I am so happy to finally have a sharpener that works! It's amazing what a difference there is between the two, and who needs the aggravation of broken pencil leads, dull points, and fussy kids? These days, one less unnecessary stress is much appreciated.

Awesome! But don't let students use it....
This is a great product. I love it. This sharpened pencils perfectly--even when my third graders sharpened them. Until that fateful day in January.... A student shoved a pencil in eraser first.... (So it was perfect from August to January.) That day in January I took it home and finally was able to remove a giant eraser-tip, but the sharpener wobbled and wasn't perfect anymore. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it failed. Now that it's April, it can handle one pencil before it dies--and it better be a Ticonderoga pencil or it won't work at all. (There is a warranty, but I'm sure misuse nullifies the warranty.)
I will be replacing it, as my students spend all day sharpening their pencils on hand-cranks that don't really work right. I will just sharpen 30 pencils each morning, which would take less than five minutes with this sharpener in peak condition.

LOVE this product!
This pencil sharpener works beautifully...does a magnificent job sharpening, and automatically stops (and a light comes on) when the pencil is sharp. Seems well made & I expect it to last a long time in my classroom!

How do you fix a jammed electric pencil sharpener?
Oct 10, 2006 by artgirl | Posted in Other - Electronics
I have an X-acto Model 41 Heavy Duty electric pencil sharpener. It sharpens only partway, which tells me that there is something jammed into the "point" of the sharpener preventing the pencil from sharpening all of the way. I can't figure out how to get in there and clear it out!
First make sure it's unplugged. Next, remove the shaving cup and take a look at the cutter. If you can see the broken piece of pencil in there take a paper clip or small knife and try to slide it out. If that doesn't work, try sticking a long pin through the hole into the broken piece and see if you can pull it out. If that don't work, you'll either have to take the thing apart or get a new one.
Don't stick your finger in there, that's a bad idea even if the thing is unplugged. Depending on the type of cutting tool inside you could still cut yourself.

how to i fix my electric pencil sharpener?
Jun 23, 2008 by Twigglepuff | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I have an X-acto helix 1900 electric pencil sharpener. I have tried cleaning out the blade i have removed even the slightest trace of shavings. all of a sudden it just stopped working, any ideas about how to fix it because i really don't want to buy a new one
If you are an experienced electrical repair person, you cpuld disassemble it and be certain the switch is clean and operating properly and then try to rewind the motor if it is faulty. Otherwise at the price of a pencil sharpener, it is hardly worth the effort and certainly not worth fixing.

Do you have an electric pencil sharpener in your classroom that has lasted for a long time?
Aug 26, 2008 by neener | Posted in Teaching
I have gone through so many pencil sharpeners over the past 10 years! I buy the heavy duty classroom use sharpeners, and they always are broken within 1 or 2 years. The warranties are only "limited warranties" which don't cover all problems. Can anyone recommend a great sharpener that lasts for a long time?
I don't think there's such a thing as a long lasting electric pencil sharpener. I gave up and went back to the manual ones. Even those aren't made the way they used to be.
I have an old metal hand crank one (don't know what kind of metal) that I've been using since I got out of college in 1972. It just keeps going, and going, and going.

In an electric pencil sharpener, do you go with or against the motion?
Oct 30, 2008 by Matt L | Posted in Polls & Surveys
I've been wondering about this for some time, when the sharpener spins is it better to let it go with the motion, or to hold it sill, does it matter, and what do you do?
