Poor quality
The quality of the Ticonderoga pencil is very poor since they moved production to Mexico. My last and final box of Ticonderoga pencils lasted all of two days. The lead was not fastened inside the wood and was broken every 1/4" inch or so. As a result the lead breaks and falls out when you attempt to sharpen or use the pencil. Unacceptable quality and their packaging makes it look like it is made in the USA--deceptive.

PENCILS
I bought these pencils for my kiddos, very durable and high quality materials are put into this pencil which now makes it my number one pencil of choice. recommended for kids for it has sort of an antimicrobial something that also makes it the worlds safest pencil against viral diseases. highly recommended

Erase...Erase..*rip* "aww"
Does anyone ever feel like that? Well, the reason I love these pencils is because of there beautiful erasers. These are the best pencils I have ever used!
Eraser:
This is my favorite part, the erasers are soft high quality and work like magic. They do not rip the paper and last for a while. The only problem is that the metal band that holds them onto the pencil is sometimes a bit loose so they often fall off.
Paint:
This is why I rated these pencils only four stars, the paint comes off really easily and is slippery so these pencils are not great for long essays or exam, stick to the mechanical pencils. Or get grips...
Lead:
The lead lays down smoothly and can, to some extent, be used for shading. As with all leads there are sometimes incidents when the pencil falls off the table and the lead breaks so the pencil is gone, but still...
So over all if you do not want to use a mechanical pencil then this pencil (preferably with a grip) is the best you can get.

Hard to find a good pencil these days!
I bought these pencils as a Christmas present for my son's third grade teacher. She had asked for pencils on the school's gift tree. My own personal experience with these pencils was good and his teacher had also said she liked this brand best. These pencils sharpen well and have good lead. Still wish they were less expensive!... Papermate "Mirado" pencils are also excellent and very reasonable (and actually less expensive per pencil at Sam's Club.)

Good pencils, good erasers
I bought a box of 100; with Amazon prime shipping they were cheaper than local office supply stores. All the pencils I've bought through the local stores lately have terrible erasers (my pet peeve). These, on the other hand seem to have good erasers; they don't smudge and do a good job of erasing. Only thing that keeps them from being 5 stars is that they are yet another product of China.

Dixon, but still not a Ticonderoga
I thought since it was Dixon it could be as good but half the cost. Silly me. They're fine as far as pencils go. They're better than el-cheapo Officemax pencils (for the same price). By no means the best. You DO get what you paid for.

Poor quality since production moved to Mexico
Since Dixon moved production of their pencils to Mexico the quality has suffered. I went through a box in 2 days because the lead kept breaking and falling out of the pencil. When you try to sharpen it, the lead breaks inside of the wood pencil body and falls out. DO NOT BUY!!! Ticondaroga's used to be my favorite, now Papermate Mirado Black Warrior's are.

Preferred pencil
Those in the know ask for pencils by brand name, and these are the ones they like. Sharpen well, write smoothly (not at all scratchy) don't break easily, have good quality erasers on the end. We always buy this brand and will continue to do so.

Excellent Graphite Never Fades, But Erases Unwanted Old Flames Well
At a cafe, I doodled on a newspaper with my Dixon Ticonderoga pencil. As a classic #2, the soft graphite was dark, thick and steady, working well on the dim white recycled newsprint. Against the cafe's smell of burnt coffee rested the subtle sweet smell of wood freshly sharpened.
In walked an extraordinary beauty. How many years had passed since I first saw her here? No, this isn't the time for that. She was here. That mattered. What happened 10 years ago needed to be forgotten. She smiled and called me over. "Nancy," I said. And then, more was said, with more smiles.
Three hours and a loaf of bread later, it was time to go. Nancy grabbed her address book and a pen. She asked me my e-mail address while adjusting her lipstick. She took my pencil and wrote 'Brockeim' in flowing black-gray letters with curves like waves, yet completely legible. She could have used a pen, I noticed. She didn't. I have not heard from her since.
May your Dixon pencils never fade, and the tips never break.

Great pencil, history
Since Ticonderoga pencils have been around for decades, you come to expect great quality. Although no longer made here for some reason, they have managed to maintain their superior quality. We use these exclusively in our schools and there's never a worry about the durability of them during test time. I do suggest, however, that you get the ones with the Microban to help ward of germs. LOVE those! Highly recommend!

Are Prang and Dixon separate brands of colored pencils? Is one better than the other?
Sep 09, 2008 by Lisa | Posted in Drawing & Illustration
Sometimes the box says just "Prang," and sometimes it says "Dixon Prang." What is the difference?
I am surprised you don't have a "Wizard Prang" pencil.
But then that's America!
In England a "Prang" is when two things collide and describes Damage or Write-Off as a result. A Dixon prang would be when someone named Dixon is involved.
In World War 2 when aeroplane pilots shot down an enemy aircraft they used the phrase "Oh! Wizard Prang!" to describe their success.
See how different things mean different things to people who on the face of it speak the same language?

it doesn't matter. there is no holy grail of art supplies. everyartist has a preference but in the end it comes down to the talent of the artist. more often that not you can do just as well with cheap wal-mart brand supplies.

Dixon Ticonderoga Pencils?
Sep 29, 2008 by fullpintlight | Posted in Drawing & Illustration
I just bought a box of Dixon Ticonderoga Pencils. Outside of the box it says that the pencils are made in Mexico but on the pencil itself it just says " U.S.A " on them. Any suggestions for this question?

Yes, it is self-propelled and has a secret store of graphite.
