Great little shredder!I have had this shredder for quite a while and it works and works and works. Some days, I run it alot, other days I don't. I can depend on it to shred just about anything. It's easy to empty and recycle and holds lots.
I will definitely buy another when this one works no longer.
Much better construction than Fellowes DM8c....
If you still have bad feelings towards Fellowes shredders after giving up on the constant jams and final breakdown of the previous model, the DM8C model approx. 2004-2008, rest assured this model is better built. The DM-12C shredder uses the same paper basket setup as the previous DM8C but I believe that is where the similarity ends. After taking both models apart it is apparent that Fellowes improved the construction of the new model by first of all adding three or 4 times larger end gears to turn the shredder blades. I do not believe you will wear away teeth on the gears as in the earlier model. Plus, most importantly, the earlier model had small separate plastic tabs on each half of the blade assembly to hold them together. Many reviewers who also opened their housings saw the plastic tabs had broken off due to the stresses of the shredder allowing a large gap to form between the halves that let paper shreds get jammed up. This also would cause the whole shredder to operate slowly and eventually cease operation as well. In the newer model the tabs are still there but they are reinforced by being part of a larger plastic strip that is part of each half of the housing. I doubt now that these plastic tabs will break off even if you stuff the shredder with sheets of paper or shred a credit card or cd. Be careful and not shred a Tivtek envelope or such because it will not shred and get stuck within the blades (just use scissors to cut up your address on a Tivtek envelope).
Watchout for this Seller
I'm in the middle of a hassle on this product.
Seems TechNGnet wants to charge nearly 50 dollars for shipping and handling of this product.
You can do a whole lot better.
Highly Recommended
Just to echo some of the other reviews, this is a great shredder for the price. I purchased this shredder at Costco for
$100. There are less expensive shredders with similar features (including
Fellows), but this thing is more powerful and quieter. It is large (7-gallon bin) and heavy, but has the pull-out bin (don't have to remove cutter assembly), bin window and full bin indicator. It has all the features (safety and convenience)and is easy to use. I don't intend to use it for CD / DVD destruction, but I tried it with 12 sheets of 24lb paper and the motor barely slowed. My previous shredder was a Royal M85X. Not a bad unit, but the stop sensor failed and she was very noisy and couldn't handle my recent home office paper purging and died. For home office use, I really can't see spending more than the $100 I paid, nor would I recommend anything less "heavy duty". There are a few decent light use $60 shredders out there, but there is also alot of junk...just read the reviews and check the shredders at your local stores.
Overheats and jams
Mine oveheated after less than 5 minutes of continuous use (nothing heavy, just normal shredding). It stops working and then you'll have to wait for it cool down for about an hour before it works again. I'm very disappointed, and retuning mine for a better model.
