PleasedI received the shredder in a couple of days. Everything was in order and packed well. Shredder has worked great so far! The first time I tried about 6 sheets, it got jammed. It was easy to clear the jam. That is the only time. I have since run up to 8 sheets at a time, cd's, and credit cards through it with no problem. I am very please with this shredder. We do not shred every day, so I expect this one to last a long time. It is very heavy duty.
Product does an excellent job although louder than previous shredder
Product arrived in a timely manner & there was practically no assembly required. Easy to use although it is a little loud.
A tank of a shredder.
Got an 8 sheet cross-cut Fellowes in 2001. Finally broke it last month and after looking over other shredders at local office supply stores decided that I would be throwing my money away buying something cheaper but a lot flimsier.
Yes, Fellowes makes some cheap, flimsy shredders as well but this isn't one of them. The cutting head is heavy and solid. Compared to the earlier model this is faster, appears more rugged, has a higher capacity and is much quieter! Cost about the same price as the old one.
The pull-out bin is a huge improvement over the earlier model where you had to pull the shredding head off.
The real test of a shredder comes over time. And I've only had this shredder for a few problem free weeks. I'd expect it to last a long time. I'll give it a lot of lubrication like I did with the old one and if I have a problem with it, I'll update this review.
There are two things I don't like about it.
1. The lack of a real on/off switch. There's a standby/shred/reverse switch but the manual recommends you unplug it if you're not going to be using it for awhile and it's annoying to plug it in and out each session. There appears to be a newer model, the DM-12Ct which is almost the same as this except it has a real on/off switch and a sexy TURBO button!
2. The earlier model could be lubricated with regular machine oil. This model (it appears many new shredders have this requirement) needs a special vegetable based oil for lubrication. Annoying but at least Fellowes includes a small bottle of the oil.
Neither of these problems is a big deal.
Haven't had a reason to test the credit card or CD/DVD shredding option yet.
Pleased with Purchase
Have only had this shredder a little over a month, but so far am very pleased. It has been great at shredding everything put in it so far without a hint of jamming. Haven't tried the CD shred function yet, but credit cards went through with ease. The waste container was larger than anticipated. This probably isn't a machine to try to fit into a tight space. Motor seems powerful and runs quietly. So far, my husband and I prefer this shredder over the Royal shredder it replaced.
Great little shredder!
I have had this shredder for quite a while and it works and works and works. Some days, I run it alot, other days I don't. I can depend on it to shred just about anything. It's easy to empty and recycle and holds lots.
I will definitely buy another when this one works no longer.
