Works wonders
I feared this would be an over-hyped useless gizmo. It works wonderfully. Don't expect to use it for shredding whole sheets, use it for shredding personal info on junk mail, catalogs, forms, etc. I can shred a week's worth of mail in a minute or two. Plenty strong for credit cards.

shredding scissors it works
I received the multi blade shredder scissors and I tried them right away. This product really does what it
says it is going to do, you can use them to shred your private papers or old bills. It does work
however if you have alot of shredding to do I still would use the electric paper shredders.
This will take you forever and your hand will be hurting if you have a large job of shredding to do.
Overall I like the product I have found you need to tear the large papers in half and then cut
in one direction and then do a criss cross pattern to get a complete shred of the private papers.
It is a bit challenging if you have a small project or for daily use it works beautifully.
Overall it is a good buy and the company I went through to get the product was very professional
and the product was delivered on time.

Works great!
This is a great small size, non-electric alternative to a shredder. Works best a few things at a time - if you have a large backlog of papers to be shredded, you could get hand cramps. Well constructed and sturdy, plenty sharp. For best results, cut diagonally rather than across the paper either horizontally or vertically. Both handles are the same size, so will work right- or left-handed.

Good enough for me!
Has the power I needed to handle small jobs like shredding old receipts, old documents, old checks and some credit cards. Haven't had any problems with it but I did buy some paper that sharpens and lubricates the shredder. The paper was also made by Fellowes and bought it at Staples but I'm sure they have it somewhere on Amazon. I've always been happy with the time it takes for me to get my order. Usually within 4 days. Very happy so far.

Good Shredder
Bought it on February 24th, 2010 for $57.89 with free shipping.
What can I say, it's a shredder. A bit noisy, so I try to shred when no one's around or I'll close my door. I don't think the SafeSense is necessary... Then again, human stupidity never fails to surprise me so I can understand why they implemented it.
Purchase was based on the high amount of positive reviews. Over the past 4 months, I've had it stall a couple times when I fed it 8 sheets of paper at a time. Since then, I've kinda babied it with a few sheets at a time. This is a "light duty" shredder, so it was perfect for me as I have gone almost paperless.

Worked as anticipated without problems.
Swing-up top for emptying is quite convenient and probably the main attraction for me.
Everything seems to work as described. Does not get heavy use, and cannot, as of now, comment
on longevity.
Satisfied with purchase.

Fellowes 32057 Powershred P=57Cs
I bought this (first) shredder based on the high recommendations of others and I have not been disappointed. I use a plastic bag to catch the waste, which I imagine everyone does, but I was surprised to see how fast it fills up. Note: the bag is the same size as the container. I would guess it holds about 20 shredded pages but I might be wrong. Based on the reviews of others I confirmed that three is the maximum number of pages that it shreds simultaneously.
The product was shipped standard mail and I received it within four days.

Got my 4year old model working again thanks 2reading revews
My 4 year old Powershred DS-1 suddenly stopped shredding, and would only work in reverse. Looking for a replacement Fellowes in Amazon, I found my exact broken shredder model listed here, with others having exact same problem with their newer shredders. Following suggestion from two of the reviewers, I first repeatedly tapped the little plastic plastic sensor tab with a piece of folded typing paper, but no response. Then I carefully vacuumed the interior, and when it still didn't work except in reverse, I again repeatedly tapped the plastic switch with the folded paper and it finally responded. My old DS-1 is working fine again - thanks!

Best shredder ever!
Having broken several paper shredders (after very little use), I ordered this based on other reviews and found that it really lives up to the hype. Use for home office and I don't put more than 7 or 8 sheets at a time.

14 month follow-up
We loved this shredder from the start but 2 months past the warranty expiration, it suddenly started clicking repeatedly when turned on and would not shred. I called Fellowes and the gentleman (American, english first language!!) suggested a fix which worked once only: fold 3 sheets of typing paper 4 times and repeatedly hit the little plastic switch tongue for 20 sec. Barring that working, he told me the only alternative was to buy a new unit.
Being a retired EE, I undertook to get the unit working. It took a long, skinny phillips driver and many curses upon the guilty industrial designers and their ancestors but by putting a wire tie around the offending microswitch to hold it closed, the unit is now operational, but manual only. This thing was not designed to ever be repaired. The actual mechanical assembly of the shredder looks very robust but a cheap plastic part failing required the replacement of the unit. Disassembly is a PITA. I really hate that kind of design thinking on something that costs over $100.
Bottom line, if you buy one of these, be sure to burn it up before the warranty is up unless you are pretty handy. (5 yrs cutter only, 1 yr everything else).

Nice shredder!
So far this shredder has worked fine.
I use it in my home office and no complaints so far.
I dont work the machine too much, only a couple of papers here and there but it does work out almost every day for a few moments.
The paper waste is easy to remove and holds all the paper cuts in place. Easy to dispose of the waste also into a plastic bag or trash can.
Usefull machine.

Why do some home office paper shredders have a daily limit?
May 15, 2008 by Jim C | Posted in Other - Electronics
I'm looking at the Fellowes shredder and it says it can shred 8 pages, 10-20 times per day. Why is there a limit? It's a mechanical device. Why does it care?
Because they are cheaply made. The motor and gears will give out faster with time left on the warranty.
Shred Guy | May 19, 2008
I think this is due to the mechanism heating up if you use it constantly, after you use it it probably says it needs to cool down for some amount of time!
Therefore the most they recommend you shred with it is 8 pages, then let it rest for a time depending what it says in the instructions.
Richard S | May 15, 2008
The 8 pages is the load limit at any one time. The 10 to 20 times a day has to due with how soon you will fill it up before you have to clean it etc.
Dusty | May 15, 2008
It's a light duty motor, so using it all day long, every day, will cause it to wear out sooner than home shredders would be expected to. Call it 'mileage', so to speak.
But you're right, just because you've used it 20 times in one day, it will still operate for a 21st time, or even a 30th time. The only catch is that the motor does generate heat as it runs, so making it do too much work in too short a time (like 20 times in an hour) will cause the thermal interlock to kick in, making it inoperable until it cools back down, usually in a half-hour or so.

how can i destroy paper documents at home without a shredder or by burning?
Jan 11, 2009 by july | Posted in Other - Home & Garden
is there a liquid solution i can pour on boxes of documents i want to destroy. it will take too long to shred, i don;t want to pay to have them shredded, and i can't burn. i don't want to sit and tear each document.
i want something fast and easy.
you should never burn large amount of paper in a fireplace, the paper increases the buildup of creosote, carbon materials in chimneys from wood-burning fires.
For about $35.00, you can call a pro shredder. Look in the yellow pages.
They come to your home with a big truck that has a big shredder built in.
You can watch everything they do, and it is fast.

Is shredded paper easier to recycle?
May 16, 2007 by binga | Posted in Other - Environment
I was at Partners the other day and noticed one of those compact, home-use paper shredders and was wondering if shredded paper is easier to recycle than sheet paper? Stripe-cut, cross-cut or whatever cut they've got to offer.
I do understand that the main reason behind shredding your papers is security but does doing so has any benefits other than piece of mind?
Although it technically CAN be recycled, many recycling companies will frown upon it as, in a shredded state, they can't be 100% sure that it contains nothing but the type of paper they want to recycle. If you want to recycle, it's therefore best NOT to shred it.
However, if you're shredding for security reasons, the shredded paper CAN be added to a compost heap provided it contains no staples, sellotape etc. It probablay also adds to the security given that only the most determined fraudster is goign to start sifting through your compost heap for your vital details!

How to make a recycled paper without using blender?
Apr 09, 2009 by Jadz | Posted in Hobbies & Crafts
I wanted to make a recycled paper but my mom won't allow me to use the blender.
I have no paper shredder here at home. i only have a paper cutter, so it means it's just manual cutting.
PLEASE help me, I want to make my paper really thin and I want it to look like it have been shredded in a blender...
Thanks in advance
What do you look for when buying a paper shredder? Power vs. the price?
Jan 27, 2007 by HOTSAM329 | Posted in Other - Electronics
I'm in the market for a shredder. There are many models at various prices. My need is for occasional use at home with papers, and maybe for credit cards and CD's. Because of wanting to use it for CD's, does it have to be a more powerful and expensive model? I notice they don't specify the motor power ratings on the schredders, only the number of sheets at a time. Does anybody have experience as to which brands are the best buys for the money?
Thanks.
The price goes up as the shredded stuff get shredded finer and also if you require media destruction. Decision should be based on how classified you see your data. Standard home use I would choose the cheapest, because the thugs you want out of your stuff only have basic cut & paste skills at thier disposal and the information contained in that data (ie bills, letters, statements) is easiely obtained by real crooks without going through your trash. If your stuff is more important (ie corporate secrets, engineering designs, original music scores or literary work, etc) Invest more. Cd's and media have thier own blade requirements and if standard destruction techniques won't work invest in a machine specifically for this use.
Good luck and bonus points for your interest in information security.
