NOT A Confetti Shredder
I looked at some shredders at Office Depot, and went through 15-20 reviews on Amazon, and a few more on other sites. By the time I got to this one, I wasn't paying enough attention. I saw the high ratings and the words "confetti" shredder.
So, it's my fault for not paying enough attention to the specs. But it's also Fellowes' fault for claiming that the output can be called confetti. Two inch strips are not confetti. The shredder seems to be ok as a strip shredder, from the small usage I've given it. As some others have noticed, that shredder head is heavy, and you need to take it off the capture bin to empty the bin.
Time to find out how to return this to Amazon.

Durable shredder
Definitely gets the job done. So far no problems. We've gone through a few shredders and so far this one has managed to last a few years. Seems like you get what you pay for, which is nice on something like this that is used a lot.

Fellowes PS-67Cs shredder
This shredder replaces an older Fellowes model. This shredder was purchased for casual home use. The feature that most inspired my purchase was the continuous operation time of 10 minutes. Most shredders in this price range feature a 2-3 minute operating time before they get warm and start to bog down. The confetti cut shred size assures security. The bin capacity is good too. I use an 8 gallon transparent trash bag in mine, and the fill window is a plus. I also like the credit card shred slot and the fact that it will also accept small paper clips and staples. It is a strong robust unit and I like the Safesense Technology features. I am very happy with this shredder and I feel that for $106.00 I got way more for the money than other shredders offered in this price range.

Great Value / Great Price
I just bought this Fellowes shredder after years of owning an older, smaller model Fellowes and all I can say is I am very happy with my purchase!
I work from home and would say I shred my fare share of documents and junk mail, so I was looking for a high quality moderate usage shredder and the Fellowes DM12ct is exactly that.
The construction is high quality and the operation is easy. A huge plus for me is the volume the containment area holds and the ease of emptying the shredded waste, A++.
This model is also much quieter than my old model which was a bit of a surprise, but I guess that should be expected with 4-years upon which to improve on the technology.
I would like to add one last thought and that is the importance, and this applies to any shredder, of emptying out the containment basket more often than you think you should and oiling the cutting mechanism at least once a month. Do these two things religiously and you should get several years of shredding happiness.

Going on 2 years now
I've had this for about two years, it works very well and is easy to maintain with a little oil. Saw the other review, perhaps I'm lucky?
Anyhow, for me it shreds everything: cd's, credit cards, even papers with staples in them.

Do not buy - Can't get parts
I bought this shredder 2 years ago from a source other than Amazon and, after light use, it failed. I took it apart and found that it had a broken bearing support on the end of the shredder drums. I called Fellowes to find that they only have the basket and bin available for service. In my mind, this is not acceptable for a unit costing over $100.

Are paper shredders really secure as they are suppose to be???? (See below)?
May 25, 2006 by scanjet | Posted in Other - Computers
I've heard reports of people being able to put together paper shreddings. Most paper shredders just cut strips of paper. The confetti shredders krimple and cross cut the shreaddings.
ACTUALLY people have all the patience in the world buddy, if it comes to taking your whole bank account, or something like that, think about it if it takes a week to put these documents back together, and they are gonna rip off 25,000 dollars, wouldn't you have the patience to only work for a week straight and make a minimum wage earners salary in a week? As for everyone else, they aren't really that good, the ones you should get are either confettii or higher, they shouldn't just cut little strips, thats too easy. I just bought one that works good for 130 dollars, but there was one that did random cuts and made it virtually impossible to piece together.

No they are not very secure. There are really expensive shredders that companies use that actually shred it two times, vertical and horizontal, so those are pretty safe, but they are EXPENSIVE.
Its a lot safer than just throwing a chunk of paper into the garbage, but its not 100% safe where its completely non-readable. Companies usually have their own garbage disposal for shredded papers and they put locks on them.

A cross cut shredder is the safest kind. A strip shredder will work best if there is a lot of similar looking papers shredded together thus making it much more difficult to put stuff together. To be more secure split the shreddings into different bags and, if you have a cat, clean out the kitty litter on top of it.

yeah go for cross-cut surely no-one's got that much patience
mesun1408 | May 25, 2006
fire or acid bath is still the best security
