Attractive and cuts well. The combination of metric and inch grids on the cutting board is a bit confusing, but a fact of history/current situation.

Cuts a little off but........
The paper will cut slightly off, I hold it at a angle to make it straight, besides that it cuts good........

Great paper trimmer for the price.
I had been looking for a guillotine paper trimmer for a while and am glad that I waited for this one. This is the one to get. The weight is hefty, the blade is sharp and precise. From a single sheet to a dozen, the cut is clean; you can expect accuracy with every use. Just get it if you are looking for one - you will not be disappointed.

Perfect for home/office/craft use and Swingline Customer Service is EXCELLENT!
I purchased the Swingline ClassicCut 15 inch guillotine paper trimmer from Amazon in July 2009 for use in my home-based business of personalized note cards and greeting cards. This solid-built trimmer easily and cleanly cuts through 3 sheets of heavy card stock with little effort. However, the measurements on my trimmer were the tiniest bit off and slightly less than perfectly square. It was so close that I blamed the card stock rather than the trimmer. By January 2010 when I confirmed that the cutter was to blame, it was too late to return to Amazon. On a whim, I contacted Swingline via their website and told them of my dilemna. With no questions asked and without prodding from me, Swingline sent me a brand new replacement. It is, of course, perfect! I will continue to buy Swingline products because I believe the problem with my original trimmer was extremely rare. But more importantly, to reward their outstanding Customer Service.

Great paper cutter
I have bought many cheap paper trimmers telling myself that I don't use one enough to justify a more expensive one. Every one of the cheap trimmers that I have purchased have been a disappointment and more importantly have not done a very good job of cutting paper. I finally said to myself enough and did some research and tried a number of different trimmers and, for the money, this one is everything you need in a paper trimmer. It does a great job of cutting one or more pages and does an equally good job no matter if the paper is really thin newsprint or thick card stock. My only regret is that I didn't just buy this one in the first place and save myself all of the money I spent on the less expensive ones.

Good value
This was a good product at a good price. The trimmer is light weight which makes it very portable, yet sturdy enough to cut as much as you want. I only wish that it was able to cut more pieces as once. I got good clean cuts when cutting two sheets, but any more than that produced some rough edges. Overall I am very pleased with both the product and the service.

Good for the money
The pros of this paper trimmer definitely outweigh the cons, but those cons are valid, so this falls just a bit short of a 5-star rating.
Pros:
1) Sharp blade that cuts accurately and repeatedly. A few reviewers have mentioned difficulty in seeing where the cut will be made, but I have had no problem in that regard. The device cuts straight along the metal edge every time.
2) Lightweight. Not a huge plus for me, but if you need to move it around a lot, it will be easy to do so.
3) Reasonably priced. There are a lot of paper cutters to choose from, but this one seems to be on the lower end of the cost scale, and without being a complete piece of junk. For ~$40, I doubt you can find one much better than this.
Cons:
1) While I have had no issues yet, I question the long-term durability of this product. Other than the steel cutting edges and some fasteners, it's made entirely of plastic. While this does make it lightweight (as mentioned above), it seems a little chincier than one with a wooden base. Depending on what you want, this may or may not matter. I recommend you consider the possible durability issues and make your own choice.
2) Cuts single pages extremely well, but has trouble when dealing with multiple pages. I haven't tested this extensively, so I don't know what the cutoff is, but I tried slicing through a junk mail letter containing a few folded pages, and the blade barely made a dent. You might be able to use this to cut two or even three pages at a time (though I'm not entirely sure), but if you're looking to cut through several pages at once, you might need something a little heftier.
Bottom line: If you don't need anything really sturdy/heavy duty, this is a great little trimmer for a great little price.

Very nice paper trimmer
The paper trimmer is light weight and easy to use. I had an older paper cutter that was nice but heavier. The lighter weight makes it nice to carry and use. The handle of my old paper cutter was in two pieces and the screw that held them together came out several times. I finally decided it was time to replace the cutter. I like that this handle is one piece. The paper lines up nicely and the blade cuts very nice. I have been very pleased with it.

great trimmer, easy to use, even for a nonscrapper!
I needed a trimmer for several wedding projects and time was getting short- so my fiance volunteered to do some of the work. Not a problem one! He does advice being sure to hold down the comfort grips or the paper does tend to slip- but otherwise every cut was just what I was looking for!

The BEST paper trimmer I've bought so far & I've bought a few. I love this trimmer, it's accurate & easy to use I love the measurements in the middle of the table too, makes it really easy to adjust smaller sizes to cut. I love, love, love this product.

Does not live up to claims.
I got this cutter to cut the spines off books so I can scan them. While it will work for the purpose, it has been a huge disappointment. First, as several have pointed out, the blade is extremely sharp. I heeded the warnings and was extremely careful cleaning oil off the blade and the rest of the machine. Then, while trying to line up a book for cutting, I dragged my thumb across the exposed blade, cutting off most of the nail and a little flesh underneath. I had to go to the emergency room to get the bleeding stopped. While my inattentiveness was the direct cause of the accident, if the machine had been designed with a guard that would prevent contact with the exposed blade when in the fully raised position, the accident wouldn't have happened. I tried to come up with a guard but there is nowhere to mount it with its present design.
The blade lock only prevents the blade from falling down while positioning paper to be cut. Since there is no blade guard, the only safe position for storage is with the blade down. There should be a lock to hold it in the down position when storing and transporting (I'm going to tie the blade handle to the clamp adjuster to ensure it stays put when moving and storing). If the handle sticks up too much when storing, just take it off; it just slips on and off.
The advertised capacity of 1 1/2" is a stretch. I could barely slip a 1 1/2" thick paperback book under the clamp. 1 1/4" is a more practical limit. I will have to split any books that are thicker.
The blade apparently doesn't run square to the base even though it is mounted square. Cuts angle in when cutting. I'm able to live with it, though, since every page doesn't have to be the exact same size.
The politest term for the fence is Mickey Mouse. It sets square to the table but adjusting it is a pain since it is free floating.
The directions are a joke, partially due to very poor translation and partially because they are inadequate.
The clamp needs to have a wider base an itt just isn't strong enough to hold a paper stack as securely as it should. Also, It seemed to have some play so I removed the cover (which meant removing two screws and, contrary to what one reviewer said, two screws on the bottom) and found a loose screw that needed tightening. I had thought I had stripped the clam screw but it was just the play from the loose screw. This is shoddy quality control.
While I am able to use the machine for what I intended (albeit barely), I am very disappointed in the quality and design of it. Frankly, I am surprised at the glowing reviews this machine has received and, unless the cutter I received is different from the others, question their authenticity, especially the one that claimed to handle 1"-2". Another thing I wonder about is the review that said the handle sticks up too far to store on a shelf. First, the blade should be stored when down, not when locked in the up position. Second, even in the locked position, the handle comes off. Third, at 40 lb., most of it on one side, this thing is mighty heavy and awkward to be putting up on a shelf. The only thing in the reviews I agree with is the blade is very sharp.

Desktop Industrial Guillotine Heavy Duty paper cutter
when I saw the picture on the internet of the was that the guillotine was a toy but is an excellent tool, precise cuts, even when the material is bent, small cuts are clean, the only thing I see is against the backstop is very short, difficult to square with the principle but when it does take time, if you include a laser sight would be great I would pay extra for laser sight, very Good Choice when buying a small guillotine.
If I needed another would buy it

great tool for the money; a couple of quirks.
excellent cutter for the price-- anyone having trouble getting a straight smooth cut, be sure you have a layer of cardboard above and below the stack to be cut that are at least as wide as the stack, and tighten the clamp as much as you can by hand, so that there's ZERO chance of it moving. when i don't do both of these things, i end up with an edge that either swoops inward or stairsteps all the way down its width.
also, don't rely on the swing-guide to help you find square; it's really only good as a back-up along with the clamp by the blade to help keep the stack in place.
great tool for a home studio. mine gets used a few times a month, for bookbinding.

are their guillotine style cutters for fabric?
Feb 10, 2009 by worried | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I am looking for something just like the guillotine style paper cutters but for fabric....do they made those?
Dehnco
MM Newman
Eastman Machine
American Cutting Edge
All of the companies listed above make what you have asked for. American Cutting Edge and Dehnco both make smaller models, more affordable, for purchasers that are not high capacity manufacturers.
Write to myself should you require further assistance.

It sounds like you want to make a lot of straight cuts on fabric. I suggest you consider the system that most quilters use. It is the one my wife has used for years. It is called a rotary cutter. You can get them along with a cutting mat at most farbic stores or on line at places like this:

My guillotine style paper cutter with a decorative cutting blade is dull, can it be sharpened?
Apr 28, 2007 by Philipia | Posted in Hobbies & Crafts
It's at least 20 years old. Was made in Germany, but has no manufacturer's name on it. It cuts the paper with a deco edge but it has gotten so dull that it no longer does clean cuts, it's starting to tear/shred. It's not a rotary blade, it's a guillotine style blade.
Easy - you can do it yourself either with a sharpening stone, or if you're not comfortable with that, there are small hand held sharpeners that would work perfectly well on the cutter you describe. (You can then also use it to sharpen your other knives, scissor blades, and so forth)
