they work!
I use these to hold my work and transit rfid badges. Both in the same holder on a badge reel, and both scan through the holder right away (I don't have to take them out or face one the right way or anything). That's all I was looking for, so these are a winner in my book. On top of that, very sturdy construction, they aren't super thin and flimsy or anything. Don't know how much more you can ask for in a badge holder, so that's why I'm giving 5 stars :)

Sturdy, Compact Badge Holder
My company issued me a RFID door key, which for convenience sake I keep on a spring loaded string off my belt. I broke a key recently and its replacement has no cut out for attaching strings, so I needed a sleeve. The sleeves I found at Staples were much bigger than my card key, so I went to Amazon and found this item. It's only a bit bigger than my card key, so it satisfies my requirements. It seems sturdy enough and has no real downside, no odor or sharp edges. I guess it could have been an eighth of an inch narrower, but that is just a quibble. The RFID works through it, so buy with confidence.
[Update: the holder lasted about 3 months before starting to tear. Lucky, I have 11 more to go.]

low profile, nice clip
My only objection is that the reel is not tight enough to "hold up" a heavier key such as a car smart key. I wanted something I could use to clip my smart key to my purse strap (since I don't need to put it in the ignition). Unfortunately the weight of the smart key causes the reel to un-reel a few inches. If there was some type of locking button it would be perfect. Otherwise it has a nice, well-built feeling.

Why I like this keyring.
The reason I bought this keyring is to keep my work keys separate from my house/car keys. I work in a nursing home in building services/housekeeping dept., and my work keys are heavier than my house/car keys. The key ring keeps them close without losing them.

Great badge holder
Fast secure clip on to a belt loop, smooth movement, little rubber bumper to prevent a snap when letting go, and the black satin finish looks very sharp with a suit or sport coat (more formal business attire). I always hated how the cheap ones bring down a suit or slack/sport coat combo.

Great design, good quality, just what I was looking for.
I,ve had serveral cheap 'reel type" badge holders over the years that had the belt clip style of clip. The Carabiner clip is easier to use more versatile. I carry an ID badge and a card reader door/gate pass and I need to unclip it from my belt several times daily. When I drive upto a driveway gate card reader,I just unhook the biner, reach out the car window and swipe the card, and reclip it back on.The quality seems better than most. The black and chrome looks good too. I wish I would have found this item sooner. I will buy it again when it wears out. I have used it for only 1 month and so far so good.

Serves It's Purpose
This retractable reel serves its purpose, I'm taking it with me to a music tour to Argentina. I plan to attach it to the belt loop on my shorts, and the other end to the wrist strap on the camera itself. I purchased this to protect my new camera from any pickpocketers. Be Aware: THIS IS A THIN CORD!!! It is a thin nylon cord, only about the width of a line you would draw with your average ballpoint pen. Don't get me wrong, the cord itself is strong, but I'm afraid that some pickpocketer will come up and take the camera, and, as he's running, will yank on the cord, snapping it where it connects to the reel. Although this gives me a larger feeling of security, I wouldn't unravel it as far as it can go.

Good product. Nice Feature.
I like this ID holder. This is so much better than the handout we got from the company.
For one, it's adjustable in length, so it hangs on my chest right where I want it.
Second, my security badge doesn't stick inside the windowed pocket which is an excellent feature.
Third, I like the back pocket. I keep some lunch money, a swiss-tech utilikey, and the occasional receipts for parking.
Fourth, durability, it's leather and stitching is single but well done. This looks like this will last a while before it looks tired. Plus I have a needle and some black thread somewhere in the house, so who knows how long it will last.
I never found the pencil holder which seemed to bother the prior reviewer, so if that was the flaw then is seems gone now.
As for delivery, another peeve of the prior review, I got my stuff about 4 business days later. Not bad.

Exactlywhat I ordered for the price
Doesn't last, the pen holder sides have ripped, though I expected that for the price.

can you recommend an ID badge holder that is cheap and durable?

Looking for something to hold emergency contact info for a group of girl scout brownies, I want it to be something attached, so the girls dont pull them off. Clips won't work. any advice?
thank you for your suggestion, but I have been researching and decided to use baseball card sleeves with hole punch and safety pins! Yea, so cheap!
You could get the ones that snap on and then put duct tape around the snap part... The only way they could take it off is if they somehow got access to a pair of scissors...
EDIT: Your welcome! And that is a good idea.

Do you put stickers and buttons on your work ID badge?
Sep 04, 2008 by Lt. Dan reborn | Posted in Polls & Surveys
Some of my co-workers have stickers, buttons or other bits of trivia on their ID holders. Are you the decorative, festive type person with your ID badge, or are you a low-profile kind of worker? I have seen everything from "I voted" to "I donated blood" to "United Way" on their work IDs...
I was considering adding a sticker about "if it's after 5:00 wake me or check my pulse" but thought the higher-ups might not like it.
On my badge I have a yellow ribbon for our troops & a pink one to support the cure for breast cancer.
I like your idea though..it might raise some eyebrows !!

Mexican ID cards for diplomat bodyguards made of embossed metal with the face of ID holder engraved on it.?
Oct 16, 2007 by Max | Posted in Embassies & Consulates
What can you tell me about this?
I went down to Mexico to do body guarding work for a client. One of the other bodyguards had one of these badges/ID cards. Whenever he showed this badge to a police officer or any military officer he was instantly treated like a VIP and was allowed to go anywhere without him or anybody with him being searched or questioned.
Yes it was in a leather wallet.
Did it have colored enamel, as well, in a leather wallet? If so, it sounds like the official government identity card - not a badge, per se, but no less commanding of attention (of course, everything is available for a price, so even if the body guard did not have any official status, he would be seen as someone who had powerful enough connections).
